In the middle belt, the length of daylight hours and air temperature are related to each other. And the temperature of the air is directly related to the vital activity of insects - at low temperatures they go into anabiosis, cannot leave offspring and disperse.
Slowing the development of the pupa helps to avoid turning into an adult insect in unsuitable conditions.
