The cost of education at public universities is lower than at private ones. However, in public universities tuition fees for international students will be higher than for residents of the state in which the university is located. Private universities will charge the same tuition for international students as they do for state residents. 1st and 2nd year undergraduate students are offered a room in the residence hall (dormitory accommodation is not free of charge). Graduate students usually rent housing off campus. There are 2 levels of education in the U.S.: basic higher education (undergraduate) and postgraduate education (master's and doctoral degrees).
