The Old Testament (Jewish) Passover was celebrated to commemorate the exodus of the Jews from Egypt, i.e. е. their liberation from slavery. There was a tradition of sacrificing a lamb to be baked and eaten. The New Testament contains an account of the Last Supper, during which the Passover sacrifice was Jesus, who was crucified to purify mankind. This is how a new understanding of the Passover sacrifice emerged.
